When to Book a Marbella Hen Weekend — And When It's Too Late

Three women planning a Marbella hen weekend on a villa terrace Puerto Banús

A group came to us in April. Seventeen people, a July weekend, a clear plan — large villa, catamaran, Kova on Sunday, a night at Tibu. Good group, sensible budget, straightforward to deliver.

The villa they wanted was gone. So was the next one. The catamaran was fully booked across their entire preferred week. The Sunday Kova slot had one space left on a date that didn't work with their flights.

We put together the best proposal we could with what remained — and it was a genuinely good weekend. But it wasn't the weekend they'd planned. And it wasn't the weekend the bride had been shown on her best friend's phone when the whole idea started six months earlier.

That group booked in April for July. Three months out, for peak summer, with seventeen people.

The month before, in February, we'd confirmed a booking for another group. Same month. Similar size. They got Villa Zafira, the catamaran on the exact date they wanted, and Kova on the Sunday that fitted their flights. They weren't unusually organised. They just knew how Marbella works.

We get enquiries in February for the following May. Those groups get first choice of everything. Groups who start in April get what's left.

How Far in Advance Should You Book a Marbella Hen Weekend?

A year.

That's the honest answer for any group planning a peak summer weekend — July, August, or May — with 15 or more people and a specific idea of what they want. Twelve months is not early. It is not excessive. It is right.

The groups who call us in summer asking about the following summer are the ones who get first choice of every villa, every boat date, every Sunday brunch slot. The groups who start planning in January for the following June are already working with a reduced set of options. The groups who start in April for July are working with what's left.

If your dates are flexible, your group is smaller, or you're planning for shoulder season, the timeline softens. But the principle stays the same: the earlier you move, the more of Marbella you actually get.

Here's how it breaks down.

The Marbella Hen Weekend Booking Timeline

10–12 Months Before — Book Now

This is the right window for any group planning a peak summer weekend. Not an impressive window. Not an overly cautious one. The right one.

At 10 to 12 months out, the full villa collection is open. Every villa at every size is available. The Cheeky Catamaran has clear dates across the whole summer. Kova's Sunday Bottomless Brunch has availability across every month. You are choosing from everything rather than from what's left.

We confirm bookings at this lead time every single season — not because those groups are unusually organised, but because they've heard what happens when you leave it too long. They moved early because they understood what was at stake.

For large groups — 15 or more people, any date between May and August — this is the window. Villa Zafira (sleeps 21), Villa Calista (sleeps 20), Villa Soleil (sleeps 19), and Villa Celeste (sleeps 23) are reserved this far ahead every season without exception. If any of these is on your list, the conversation needs to start now.

Booking this far out also removes the financial pressure that causes problems later. Share deposits are spread across a long runway. Nobody is scrambling for money six weeks before departure. The whole group has time to sort flights, book time off work, and actually look forward to it rather than stress about it.

6–9 Months Before — Still in Good Shape

Six to nine months is the most common lead time for well-planned Marbella hen weekends. For non-peak dates — April, June, September, October — this is comfortable. For May and peak summer, six months is a firm deadline, not a generous window.

At six months out the villa collection is mostly available, the catamaran has good dates across most weeks, and Kova has slots across the season. You're still choosing rather than compromising — but the best options at the most popular sizes are starting to go.

The most useful thing you can do at six months is get the group leader deposit paid and the villa secured. Everything else can follow. But the villa is the one thing that cannot be replaced once it's gone, and at six months you're already in the same window as every other group who started planning in January.

4–6 Months Before — Move This Week, Not Next

Four to six months out is workable for non-peak dates with a group under 15. For peak summer — July, August, or May — you're already feeling the consequences of waiting.

At this point the large villas at prime summer dates are mostly gone. The Cheeky Catamaran and The Ultimate Hen Yacht are booking up fast for summer. Kova's Sunday brunch has limited slots left for July and August.

You can still have a brilliant weekend — and we'll build the best proposal available with what remains. But if you're at four to six months and you haven't moved yet: move today, not next week.

2–4 Months Before — Limited for Summer

At two to four months before a peak summer weekend, you're working with what's left. Large villa availability is significantly reduced. The catamaran is likely fully booked across your preferred dates. There will be options — Marbella doesn't stop working at short notice — but not everything you had in mind will be there.

For shoulder season this is still workable. A September weekend enquired in June is fine. But if your weekend is in July and you're reading this in May, some things won't be available and you need to be prepared to adjust.

Under 8 Weeks — Get in Touch Anyway

We're asked occasionally whether it's worth enquiring this close to the date. The answer is always yes.

We can't promise everything will be available — and we'll tell you immediately what isn't. But last-minute availability exists, particularly for activities and nightlife. Villa cancellations happen. Boat slots release. Get in touch and we'll be honest with you about what the weekend can actually look like.

For groups who find themselves here: be flexible, be fast, and tell us what matters most to the bride. We'll focus the proposal where it counts.

Why May Books as Fast as July — and Most Groups Don't Know This

This is the piece of information that causes the most problems for Marbella hen groups, so it's worth being direct.

May is peak hen season. Not because the weather is the hottest — though Marbella in May is reliably warm, sunny, and genuinely beautiful — but because of the wedding calendar. A significant proportion of UK and Ireland weddings happen between July and October, which puts the hen weekend in late spring. May is the most common result.

The consequence is straightforward: May availability for private villas, boats, and beach clubs disappears at the same rate as July and August. Every year. Groups who start planning in January for a May weekend are sometimes already behind groups who secured their villa the previous September.

We get February enquiries for the following May every season. Those groups get what they want. Groups who start thinking about May in March are already working with a reduced collection.

If your wedding is in summer or autumn and the hen weekend is likely to fall in May — treat it exactly like a peak summer booking. A year out is right. Six months is the minimum. Three months is late.

What Books Out First — In Order

If you're working with a limited lead time and need to know where to focus, this is the order that matters.

The Villa — Always First

The villa is the foundation of the whole weekend and the hardest thing to replace once it's gone. Everything else — activities, restaurants, nightlife — can be adjusted, swapped, or rebooked. The villa cannot. Once the best options at your group size are taken, you're working with what's available rather than what's right for your group.

Our villa collection runs from Villa Liora sleeping 12 to Villa Celeste sleeping 23. For groups of 15 or more, the availability window at peak summer is narrow. The right villas go early and don't come back. Secure the villa before you confirm anything else.

The Boat — Equal Priority

Private boat charters are a finite resource. There are a limited number of boats and consistent demand from hen groups throughout the season. The Cheeky Catamaran, The Classic Hen Cruise, and The Ultimate Hen Yacht all fill well in advance for July and August. If the boat matters to your group — and for most groups it's the moment they talk about most afterwards — treat it as equal priority to the villa.

Beach Clubs — Earlier Than Most Groups Expect

The best beach club experiences in Marbella are not walk-in. Kova's Sunday Bottomless Brunch, VIP beds at Ocean Club, and La Sala Beach all have limited capacity for large groups and fill fast at peak dates. Kova is Sunday-only which makes it particularly tight — there are only four or five Sundays in any given month and hen groups compete for the same slots every season. If a beach club day is part of your weekend — and we'd recommend it for almost every itinerary — confirm it alongside the villa and boat, not after.

Restaurant Reservations for Large Groups

La Sala, Kova, and Leone all accommodate large groups well, but peak summer weekend evenings need advance notice. Don't leave restaurant bookings as an afterthought once everything else is confirmed — a table for 17 on a Saturday night in July doesn't just appear.

Nightlife — More Flexible, But Don't Leave It Too Long

Tibu and Pangea VIP tables can be confirmed with less lead time than villas and boats. Linekers Hen Party Bar Package is more flexible still. But peak summer Saturday nights at Tibu do fill — confirm nightlife alongside the rest of the weekend rather than as a final step.

What to Do If You're Already Running Late

If this timeline has made you uncomfortable about where you are relative to your dates, here's the practical advice.

Enquire today. Not when the group chat has reached a decision. Not after you've spoken to three more people. Today. Every additional day of deliberation is another day that availability narrows. You don't need everything confirmed before you get in touch — that's what the proposal process is for.

Be flexible on the villa. If the specific villa you had in mind is gone, be genuinely open to alternatives. The right villa at a slightly different size or spec will deliver a better weekend than holding out for something no longer available. We know the collection well enough to match your group to something that works — but only if you're open to it.

Consider shifting your dates slightly. A weekend in early September instead of late July, or a Thursday arrival instead of Friday, can open availability significantly. If nothing is working for your first-choice dates, ask us whether the adjacent weekend looks better before you start compromising on the things that matter.

Tell us what matters most to the bride. If you're working with a short lead time and not everything is available, knowing the priority — whether it's the villa, the boat, the beach club, or a specific night out — means we can focus the proposal on what actually matters rather than trying to fit everything in and falling short on all of it.

A Note on Payments When You Book Late

For groups booking more than six weeks before arrival the standard payment structure applies: a £100 group leader deposit to secure the booking, a £50 share deposit per group member, and the final balance due six weeks before arrival.

It's worth knowing that certain suppliers — particularly some villas and boat charters — have their own deposit requirements separate from our standard structure. Where this applies, we will always set it out clearly in your proposal before you commit to anything. There are no surprises after you've said yes. Everything is laid out upfront so your group knows exactly what is due and when.

For groups booking with less than six weeks to go, the full balance becomes payable immediately. The financial commitment lands at once rather than in stages — the group needs to be ready for that.

Travel insurance with trip cancellation cover is strongly recommended for every group member regardless of lead time.

Frequently Asked Questions About Booking Marbella Hen Weekend

When is the best time to book a Marbella hen weekend? For peak summer dates — July, August, or May — a year in advance is the right time, not the extreme time. We get enquiries in February for the following May every season, and those are the groups who get first choice of every villa, every boat date, and every Sunday brunch slot. For shoulder season dates — April, June, September, October — six months is comfortable for most groups.

Why does May book out as fast as July? Because May is peak hen season across the UK and Ireland. A large proportion of UK weddings happen between July and October, which puts the hen weekend in late spring. The demand for Marbella in May is at least as high as July — but many groups don't realise this until they're enquiring in January and finding the best villas already gone.

What books out first in Marbella? The villa, always. Large private villas sleeping 15 or more at prime summer dates go earliest — sometimes 10 to 12 months ahead. Private boat charters are a close second. Kova's Sunday Bottomless Brunch fills fast given it's Sunday-only with limited slots each month. Nightlife venues have more flexibility but peak Saturday nights at Tibu fill too.

Can you do a last-minute Marbella hen weekend? It's possible but the options narrow significantly inside eight weeks. The villa is the hardest element to solve at short notice — large villas at good sizes rarely have late cancellations in summer. Activities and nightlife are more flexible. Always get in touch regardless of lead time — we'll tell you honestly what's achievable rather than building a proposal around things that aren't available.

Do we need to have everyone confirmed before we enquire? No — and you shouldn't wait until you do. Rough numbers are enough to get the proposal started. Group size almost always changes during the planning process. Enquire with your best estimate and we'll build around it, adjusting as the group firms up.

Can we secure the villa before we've decided on activities? Yes. Securing the villa first is exactly the right approach — it's the one element with the least flexibility. Activities, restaurants, and nightlife can all be confirmed at any point after the villa is held. We'll always make sure your villa choice is compatible with your activity plans, but you don't need every detail finalised before locking in the dates.

What if the wedding date changes after we've booked? Get in touch as soon as you know. If the new date requires a different travel window we'll look at what's available and what's possible within the cancellation terms. The earlier you tell us, the more options there are. Our cancellation policy applies: 61 days or more before arrival is a full refund of deposits paid.
